ERTICO – ITS Europe and 6G-IA strengthen collaboration to advance next-generation connectivity for mobility
Istanbul, 28 April 2026. ERTICO – ITS Europe and the 6G Smart Networks and Services Industry Association (6G-IA) have reinforced their collaboration at the 17th ITS European Congress in Istanbul on Tuesday 28 April 2026.
This partnership reflects the shared commitment to fostering closer cooperation between the intelligent transport and telecommunications sectors, with the objective of accelerating innovation and supporting the evolution of connected, cooperative and automated mobility systems.
Through shared areas of support and engagement, both organisations will promote the exchange of knowledge and expertise, contribute to joint initiatives, and support the uptake of advanced digital technologies, including the development of 5G and future 6G capabilities for transport applications.
In particular, the collaboration will focus on strengthening European and international cooperation, supporting joint communication activities, and enabling project collaboration and advisory roles. This includes promoting cross-border initiatives, co-organising outreach and dissemination efforts, and contributing to innovation projects to ensure the effective deployment of emerging solutions in the mobility and transport sectors.
Joost Vantomme, CEO of ERTICO – ITS Europe, says “Strengthening our collaboration with 6G-IA is a key step towards ensuring that future connectivity developments are fully aligned with the needs of the mobility sector. ERTICO is honoured to be participating in the Board of 6GIA, represented by Dr Nikolaos Tsampieris, and we look forward continuing to contribute towards their working items related to transport and logistics infrastructure, supporting the integration of next-generation connectivity into real-world mobility solutions.”
By aligning their activities, ERTICO and 6G-IA will further strengthen cross-sector engagement and contribute to building a more connected, efficient and sustainable transport system across Europe and beyond.
Dr. Colin Willcock, Chairman of the Governing Board of the 6G-IA, comments, “This partnership with ERTICO reinforces our commitment to engaging with key vertical sectors and accelerating the development and adoption of advanced connectivity technologies. By working closely with the transport community, we can ensure that future 6G innovations effectively address the needs of mobility systems and deliver tangible benefits for society.”
